* rzr 's preferred : harmattan, nattamrah, harm, meemo ,maemian, meemo, deblet, haus00:00
rzritsnotabigtruck, nothing against you :-)00:00
mankeliwell, to be honest, there is no clear winner there so i don't really care00:01
mankelijust make those damn packages :-)00:01
rzrwe should invite the mer guys to screw it all :-)00:01
rzrbtw there're already  harmattan packages in the shared repo00:02
rzri think we should promote this fantastic wind00:02
itsnotabigtruckmankeli: regarding fuse-utils...almost done00:02
itsnotabigtruckjust adding some finishing touches00:02
mankelirzr: well it's long, but it's the most clearest. all others are quite non-obvious imo00:04
DrGrovitsnotabigtruck: Could you assist me a bit?00:04
DrGrovitsnotabigtruck: It seems like the others are fully occupied with programming ;-)00:04

trip0is there a way to manually add?00:05
mankeliDrGrov: ?00:05
mankelioops, dots in the url00:05
DrGrovmankeli: Yes, I saw the dots and tried :)00:06
DrGrovmankeli: No wonder it did not work :) No problem00:06
mankeliwell, just google "n9 user manual pdf"00:06

DrGrovmankeli: Well, I have issues with my web browser so I have problems to actually get a hold of it :(00:07
DrGrovBut thanks still, I will find out some other way to get it.00:07
itsnotabigtruckyeah, it really isn't very hard to find the manual on the nokia website00:08
itsnotabigtruckif you have issues with your web browser than fix that first00:08
mankeliDrGrov: it's the lucky day! i had to try if duckduckgo allows you to copy link address to clipboard and it seems that it does! so
DrGrovmankeli: Well I will be damned! :)00:09
DrGrovmankeli: Thanks for getting it for me :)00:09
DrGrovrzr: Thank you as well for getting it for me :)00:09
DrGrovAnd I also testing a SSH solution, this also handy to test with wget.00:09
itsnotabigtruckmankeli: once that build is done it should be fully functional00:12
itsnotabigtrucknote that it must be incepted00:12
itsnotabigtruckwith that installed, then you can use sshfs with normal permissions00:13
itsnotabigtruck(sshfs doesn't need to be incepted)00:13

GeneralAntillesjavispedro, just a guy asking questions about sowatch on that video I posted.00:40
GeneralAntillesWanted to know about custom widgets.00:41
GeneralAntillesjavispedro, see:
javispedrowell, we certainly have more stuff that the stock android app00:42
javispedrothere are some forks around like the one with the dancing guy battery-waster animation one which I'm ofcourse not planning to do :)00:42
mankeliitsnotabigtruck: with devel-su root it works. mountpoint isn't accessible as normal user without allow_other option, but i guess that's normal00:42
mankeliitsnotabigtruck: hmm, i thought fusermount would have it's sticky bit set?00:44
javispedroGeneralAntilles: answered00:45
mankelican i set it manually to fusermount binary, or does aegis do some magic checksum check and give me malf again if i do that?00:45
GeneralAntillesjavispedro, thanks.00:49
javispedroI ponder why some days suddenly I get a bazillion people following random projects of mine on gitorious00:50
javispedrothey look too human to be spambots, and even if they were spambots I don't see the spam00:51
javispedromaybe gitorious accumulates notifications and throws them all on friday00:52
rzrGeneralAntilles, $199.0000:52
rzrGeneralAntilles, ouch00:52
GeneralAntillesCheap for a good watch.00:52
javispedroI do think that it is a bit expensive00:53
javispedrothe leather on my mw has started smelling "funny"00:53
rzrwell i live without watch for decades now00:53
GeneralAntillesStrap is shit, sure.00:53
javispedrowell, the cheap casio straps I used to wear always broke in 3-6 months :)00:54
javispedrothis one seems to last somewhat00:54
GeneralAntillesCrappy Chinese leather.00:54
GeneralAntillesI haven't worked myself up to replacing it yet, though.00:54
javispedroGeneralAntilles: btw, saw  ?00:55

javispedro(for the inpulse, they asked you to _upload your source codes_ to them)00:57
javispedrorzr: once you get one of those watch-screens there's no way back :)00:58
lardmanApparently not compatible with WP7 and no comment on Linux re the pebble00:58
lardmanevening all ;)00:59
javispedromore like "wp7 is not compatible" with the pebble00:59
lardmanwell yeah probably, considering it can't even send files over BT00:59
javispedroand "iphone compatibility" means: we are wasting some of our already constrained power-budget to add the stupid apple authentication chip01:00
lardmanthey have a special Bluetooth chip?01:00
lardmanoh right01:00
lardmanworse is that one sees some quite cool things being made to plug into iPhones01:01

GeneralAntillesjavispedro, interesting.01:08
GeneralAntillesHope Metawatch gets more colors out there at some point.01:08
GeneralAntillesWatching eink update seconds on your wrist is going to be exhausting.01:09
javispedroand probably battery exhausting..01:09
javispedrowhat I dislike currently most about the metawatch is that it has the hardware to reach much higher battery figures, and yet it doesn't.01:10
itsnotabigtruckmankeli: uh oh...looks like it works with develsh permissions but not without01:10
itsnotabigtrucki was testing from the developer account and develsh so i guess i missed it01:10

merlin1991though it's not exactly a dozen phones here :D04:44
GeneralAntillesI've got a stack of 5 N900s sitting on the shelf in front of me.04:59
GeneralAntillesI should do something productive with them.04:59
merlin1991wtf 5?05:01
GeneralAntilles3 purchased, 2 from Nokia.05:01
GeneralAntillesI'm not clear on how it happened, either.05:02
merlin1991and what were you doing initially with 5 devices?05:02
GeneralAntillesWell, 1 was a loaned to friend for about 1.5 years.05:02
merlin1991okay 4 then :D05:02
GeneralAntillesI didn't START with 5 devices.05:02
GeneralAntillesThey just multiplied.05:02
GeneralAntillesStarted with 105:02
GeneralAntillesthen it went downhill from there.05:02
GeneralAntillesWas on my prototype for about a year.05:02
GeneralAntillesThen the USB port came out05:02
GeneralAntillesreplaced that05:02
ieatlinthaha, yeah05:03
ieatlintfunny how they multiply05:03

GeneralAntillesDunno about the 4th one.05:03

GeneralAntillesFully? 205:04
GeneralAntilles1 dead one05:04
GeneralAntillesand 2 without USB ports.05:04
GeneralAntillesThe DDP and the proto both are portless.05:04
GeneralAntillesWhat's worse is I also have 2 N800s and 2 770s.05:04
merlin1991I've got 1 with a dead modem, one with a semi working modem, and one fully functional05:05
merlin1991silly thing is, that I still use the semi functional one instead of swapping to the fully functional device :D05:05
GeneralAntillesIt's a pain changing devices.05:06

Elleooh neat, I didn't realise the microphone could do stereo recording05:52
Elleoall the voice recorder apps I fiddled with in the past just did really poor quality mono recordings05:53
* DocScrutinizer wonders if GeneralAntilles will share his secrets how to breed devices05:53
GeneralAntillesPut them on a shelf together, add water and money.05:54
Elleo <-- first successful recording from my Jokosher (audio editor) n9 port :)05:54
Elleohaven't written the qml elements for displaying/manipulating the waveforms yet though, so you can't do much with it once you've recorded things05:55
ieatlintElleo: there are two mics on the phone... not sure if stereo is exactly how i'd describe it05:55
Elleoieatlint: well it acts like a stereo mic05:55
ieatlintthere's a mic attached to the flash, used for noise cancellation and video recording05:55
Elleoyou can hear me off to the left side of the phone, with my finger rubbing the right side slightly05:56
ieatlintyeah, but you don't get valuably unique audio channels "in stereo"05:56
ieatlintie, there is no left/right05:56
Elleoieatlint: not entirely sure what you mean, since there's a clear left/right separation in that clip05:57
Elleoaccording to the wikipedia page the main microphone alone is what provides stereo recording05:58
Elleoso its not using that and the noise cancellation one, its just that the main mike is a stereo one05:58
* ieatlint fondly thinks back of when he had time for this shit06:01
*** jluisn has joined #harmattan06:02
DocScrutinizerthe n950 definirelay has perfectly symmetric decent stereo mics06:05
Elleoyeah, I'm using an n950; I assume the n9's mikes are similar06:06
DocScrutinizerN9 probably a bit less so, but I don't have a real N9 here to check06:06
Elleoand the wikipedia page suggests its a stereo mike too06:06
DocScrutinizerit's no stereo mic06:07
DocScrutinizerit's 2 mono mics06:07
DocScrutinizerN9 doesn't have these microphone holes like N950, I guess06:08
DocScrutinizerprobably the main mono mic is colocated to the mono speaker06:09
DocScrutinizerat "bottom end" of device06:09
Elleohmm, seems a shame if the n9 doesn't have as nice a mike as the n95006:09
DocScrutinizerthat's as reasonable a complaint as about the poor kbd of N9 ;-D06:10
DocScrutinizerI guess the "left"/ambient mic is via AV receptacle aperture06:11

jonnitrupheenix: if your talking about orientation, then you just need to put webview inside PageStackWindow element to get automatic orientation switching.08:55
trupheenixjonni, but why? in symbian i don't need to do this. i just put a flickable and set the orientation in my main.cpp.09:00
trupheenixjonni, ok i am trying. let me see.09:01

jonnitrupheenix: because only the components (pagestackwindow handles orientation automaticly in harmattan). Without it you would have to listen X events yourself and do orientation manually.09:21

itsnotabigtruck*what's up22:12
RzRwas reading a nfc article22:13
itsnotabigtrucki really need to stop missing the apostrophe on this keyboard22:13
itsnotabigtruckit's not even like i have huge fingers, i guess it's just that the ' is ever so slightly to the left of where i expect it22:13
itsnotabigtruckRzR: hmm, what about nfc?22:13
RzRwell i was wondering about cool usage22:14
RzRand not using it only for tracking paying etc22:14
itsnotabigtruckthe problem is that most of the cool applications rely on everyone having an nfc phone, or something like that22:15
itsnotabigtruckthey don't22:15
itsnotabigtruckbtw anyone want to test this opptimizer deb i prepared22:16
*** risca has joined #harmattan22:16

RzRdo i need to install inception along ?22:29
itsnotabigtruckrzr: yeah, it requires inception22:30
RzRhumm I prefer to not install it now ...22:31
itsnotabigtruckrzr: ...why not?22:31
RzRinception is a great tool22:31
RzRbut i prefer stay away from aegis for now...22:32
itsnotabigtruckrzr: what do you mean?22:33
itsnotabigtrucki mean, you can't really stay away from aegis on the N922:33
itsnotabigtruckeveryone's pretty much stuck with it22:33

FiSHBoY I'm attempting to fix someone's N9 that wasn't booting, got a rescue init on it, the disk shows up (as /dev/sdd, no enumerated disks), but does nothing but spit out I/O errors if I try to access it, I'm pretty sure that means the storage is fried, but I wanted to ask if anyone had a second opinion. :)23:22
*** Sniper_swe has joined #harmattan23:25
itsnotabigtruckFiSHBoY: afaik the rescue init doesn't always work (ever work?)23:25
itsnotabigtruckyou might have to try several times23:25
itsnotabigtruckalso booting that put the n9 into open mode until you reflash the entire thing23:26
itsnotabigtruckthis sounds like a special case though...maybe the storage IS fried23:26
itsnotabigtruckit could be a fried emmc23:26
FiSHBoYyeah, I had assumed that the rescue init worked since the disk device showed up via usb, but I'll try it a few more times anyways.  Yeah, I'm not really worried about reflashing the whole thing to stock, since it didn't boot at all when I got it and they aren't worried about the user data ;)23:28
*** liar has joined #harmattan23:29
FiSHBoYcan't list partitions or anything...  but yeah, I'll poke at it a little more, I just thought I'd ask in case anyone had something else magical to try.  thanks!23:30
itsnotabigtruckFiSHBoY: what happens if you try to reflash it23:31
SpeedEvilI'd suggest reflowing the EMMC23:31
SpeedEvilBut that is a bit harder23:31
itsnotabigtruckif you don't care about the data, then you could try it23:31
SpeedEvilAnd involves more than wrapping it in towels.23:31
itsnotabigtruckif it explodes violently, it's probably a dead emmc23:31
*** leinir has quit IRC23:31
FiSHBoYhah, chuck it in the toaster oven? ;)23:31
FiSHBoYif I try a full reflash it fails on rootfs at 32768/total23:32
itsnotabigtruckis the unit in warranty? are you not in an area where nokia tries to shirk its warranty obligations (us/canada)?23:32
FiSHBoYbut everything else flashes23:32
FiSHBoYhaha, I'm in Canada23:32
itsnotabigtruckguess you're in canada, so that's bad23:32
FiSHBoYwell, it's not mine ;)23:32
FiSHBoYmine is fine23:32
itsnotabigtruckthere seems to have been a not-insignificant number of catastrophic emmc failures23:33
DocScrutinizerI suggest reflashing with a proper power supply and fully charged battery, at reaosnable room temperature23:33
itsnotabigtruckor non-catastrophic failures (such as ecc errors)23:33
FiSHBoYyeah, the battery was also at 0% when I got it, took some playing to get it to start charging at first :P23:33
DocScrutinizererr, scratch the power supply, make that "proper USB host port"23:34
itsnotabigtruckDocScrutinizer: sounds like the problem is way deeper than low battery23:34
FiSHBoYbut at least I was able to get it to charge (stares at N900 with dead battery in it)23:34
FiSHBoYyeah, I have it plugged into a USB port directly on my board23:34
DocScrutinizeryes, the problem is again way deeper than you think I'm suggesting23:34
itsnotabigtruckit'll tell you how much battery you have when you flash it, if it's more than 20% i doubt low battery could possibly be an issue23:35
FiSHBoYyeah, it's about 50 at the moment for sure23:35
FiSHBoYer above23:35
DocScrutinizerand if you'd bother to read my post completely, you'd notice I suggested *flashing* with fully charged battery, not simply to recharge battery and see if that helps23:35
*** luke-jr has quit IRC23:37
FiSHBoYhehe, yes, I will try that as well in my rapidly diminishing list of options :)23:37
*** luke-jr has joined #harmattan23:37
itsnotabigtruckDocScrutinizer: and when he tried to flash it, it didn't even start on the rootfs (because that's when it tried to touch the kaputt emmc)23:37
FiSHBoYlater, thanks23:39
DocScrutinizerI guess you can bin this one23:41
FiSHBoYsounds like23:43
DocScrutinizerntw re MIC: I checked N9 now, my assumtion about location of mics stands (N9 actualy has no diffs to hooker in that regard)23:43
