xeshas anyone experience about the osso_rss_feed_reader error "invalid address" adding or refreshing any feed?02:43
OksanaHappens regularly. Most of RSS feeds I am trying to add do not work. I think it's some protocol incompatibility?03:03
sixwheeledbeastbeen using other rss readers for a while now.03:03
OksanaThere are a few RSS feeds that work, though. Wish I could figure out what exactly the problem is.03:04
OksanaThen it would be easier to solve it.03:04
* Oksana is refreshing right now03:05
OksanaHmm, it didn't give any errors, but it says (no posts) now. I understand that there are possibly no new posts since last time I looked at the feeds, but could I see old posts, please?03:07
xesi think there is something broken at low level... any web page produces "invalid address"03:08
Oksanaxes : try this link : http://www.take3.org/feed/03:09
* Oksana has it as one of feeds, so it shouldn't give "invalid address"... I think03:09
xes"impossible to add feed. Invalid address"03:10

OksanaThe app was working, or the feed wouldn't be in my list atm03:14
xescan you add it again?03:14

OksanaYes03:15
OksanaAnd, it displays posts03:15

siceloon the subject of feeds, is there a feed reader for N900 that can handle feeds served via HTTPS?06:48
brolin_empeysicelo: I guess yes but I do not know because Thunderbird is still the only news feed reader/agregator (spelling?) I have seriously used.  Thunderbird supports HTTPS for news feeds but, as far as I know, no mobile version of Thunderbird has been released.07:02
brolin_empeyDo the mobile versions of Opera include a feed reader?07:04
brolin_empeyIncidentally: It occurs to me that a jet engine is still a propeller in a literal sense of the word propeller.07:10
brolin_empeyApparently the ability to subscribe to a bank account as an RSS/Atom news feed would be too useful to be easily possible in practice.07:14
* Oksana lawls ; do RSS/Atom news feeds allow for authentication?07:16
OksanaBecause banks generally regard such information as private, and would not want to publish it available for whole world to see07:17
OksanaBesides usual "walled garden" approach where they try to limit banking operations to bank-developed apps, and only grudgingly allow for Internet Banking07:18
brolin_empeyOksana: An RSS or Atom news feed is usually accessed via HTTP or HTTPS.  HTTP has authentication ability.07:20
OksanaDoes HTTPS have username+password authentication ability? If yes, and if RSS news feed reader works with it, then it should be doable.07:20
OksanaBy the way, regarding authentication: is it possible to post news from RSS feed program, or is it merely at "reader" level?07:21
brolin_empeyRSS and Atom are data/file formats, not a means of accessing a news feed.  In practice, a news feed is usually an XML file served by an HTTP server.  Authentication is out of the scope of RSS and Atom as a data/file format.  HTTP has at least Basic authentication, which uses credentials (a username and password).  I have only configured an HTTP server using Basic authentication using HTTP, not HTTPS, but I assume that authentication at the HTTP level is07:27
brolin_empeystill possible with HTTPS.07:27
brolin_empeyOksana: It is possible to have posting ability in a news feed reader program but I guess that most news feed reader programs lack this ability because such programs are primarily intended for consumers of news, not producers of news.  If you can edit a plain text file, though, you can edit an XML file, including one used for RSS or Atom.07:33

* Oksana facepalms at how most programs are intended at consumption, not generation07:43
*** spiiroin_ has quit IRC07:44
OksanaWeb-browser : consume HTML, not edit it; same for an SVG file, or an image (strictly speaking, jpg/png/raster images should be openable in an image viewer, instead of web-browser - web-browser doesn't have crop or zoom functionality of image viewer; and image viewer should easily feed the image to07:45
OksanaMedia player: consumes audio/video/radio, no editing. Even metadata editing would be nice to have (image viewer already has it, just, not media player).07:46
Oksanaan image editor).07:46
OksanaEBook reader: again, only reading books, not writing or editing them.07:46

brolin_empeyOksana: Modern GUI Web browsers can scale (zoom) images.07:52
OksanaTogether with web-page, sure. Can they zoom into image without zooming into web page? Or adjust its brightness/contrast?07:53
siceloHTTPS Feeds - i think most (if not all) the RSS feed reader applications we have are not built with SSL/TLS libraries, hence can't consume HTTPS feeds. unfortunately most of the web is becoming https-only07:56
OksanaWell, is osso RSS reader open-source?08:12
brolin_empeyOksana: The first Web browser was actually a combination browser/editor, not only a browser.  Tim Berners-Lee always intended for the Web to be a platform/medium for collaboration, not merely a one-way publishing medium.08:14
brolin_empeyhttps://www.w3.org/People/Berners-Lee/WorldWideWeb.html08:14

brolin_empeyOksana: Modern GUI Web browsers now include an inspector tool with the same live editing capability as the Firebug extension introduced or at least popularised around a decade ago.  This type of tool can be used to scale an inline image without scaling the rest of the containing document.  If the brightness or contrast of an image can be set as a property exposed via CSS or the DOM or something similar, which it can if I recall correctly, then a Web browser08:29
brolin_empeycan also adjust the brightness or contrast of an image.08:29

brolin_empeyI have a strong interest in the history of the Web and have personally contacted Tim Berners-Lee and his personal assistant Amy.08:35
brolin_empeysicelo: I guess you can probably find a feed reader that can run in a Web browser that already has TLS support.  After all, even a Java Runtime Environment has been implemented in JavaScript to run in a Web browser.08:40
