DocScrutinizer05well, SIP is P2P04:31
DocScrutinizer05just nobody uses it that way04:32
*** EgS has quit IRC04:37
DocScrutinizer05https://www.onsip.com/blog/sip-account04:39
DocScrutinizer05note they say you not only can create a group up to 100 users that have basically same domain name in their SIP address, they also promise calling and receiving calls from *any* SIP addresses in the internet04:43
DocScrutinizer05not as if this was anything special. All SIP registrars *could* offer that and e.g. sipgate.de did it until some years ago when they stopped prolly to maximize their ROI and to protect their users from unsolicited SPAM calls which only make sense when they are for free04:47
DocScrutinizer05and of course you as well could run your own registrar server if you want04:48
*** dafox has quit IRC04:48
DocScrutinizer05funny enough almost all landline phones in Germany got converted to "triple play" SIP now, and basically not a single one of those offers the full SIP featureset04:50
DocScrutinizer05rather the ISPs pretend it was a normal landline phone04:51
DocScrutinizer05https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_play_(telecommunications)04:54
DocScrutinizer05ooh, and just if you wonder: my SIP accounts on N900 are always activated, are pretty humble on bandwidth while not on call and work 100% fine via 3G internet, on 2G bandwidth results are mixed05:10

blaplooks like the way to go05:36
blapty05:37
blapDocScrutinizer05: may i pm something?05:37
DocScrutinizer05sure05:38
DocScrutinizer05but I'm afk now05:38
blapok05:38
LjLDocScrutinizer05, https://ring.cx/ does use SIP that way05:41
blapi see OpenDHT protocol, peer-to-peer discovery05:48
blapbut ty for the link05:49
blapcan i have ring act as a client for my telekom sip-capable router?05:50
blapLjL: any experience with Ring on mobile?  Or know the openDHT idle-bandwidth?05:54
LjLblap, last i tried it, the idle bandwidth and associated battery use was sadly still past the "acceptable" line. i have a belief that being a DHT doesn't intrinsically prevent it from being made efficient on mobile, but not many seem to agree with me there05:56
LjLblap, and OpenDHT is for peer discovery indeed (and also text chat in certain cases), but then the actual audio/video link is established using SIP05:57
LjLand yes, it can also be used as a standard SIP client by adding a SIP according instead or in addition to a Ring account within the client05:57
LjLa SIP account*05:58
LjL"according", feh05:58
blaphm06:01
blapi wonder if my stupid telekom router can route one of my numbers to my sip client on laptop06:01
blapdid you build Ring for maemo LjL ?06:02
LjLno, honestly i didn't even think of that. once it's usable on Android without keeping wifi on all the time...06:03
LjLmy ISP's router uses SIP internally but there's no way to "grab" it that doesn't involve ugly stuff like arp poisoning06:03
*** spiiroin has quit IRC06:03
*** spiiroin has joined #maemo06:04
blapah06:08
blapi don't even know if sip traffic is visible on the lan side06:09
blapdoubt it06:09
blapit lets me assign the incoming calls to physical sockets06:10
DocScrutinizer05no, you usually can't access that. It's SIP but not "public". Unless your ISP/telco provides the SIP data/credentials there's hardly any chance to log in any other SIP client than the "TerminalAdapter" ModemRouter thing.your router might offer local SIP clients via (W)LAN and you *could* attach a B2BUA like asterisk to that and log in / connect to it via your regular internet access06:24
blaplame06:31
blapthe cellphone could be a wlan+sip phone that rings with your regular number06:31

DocScrutinizer05mine is06:48
DocScrutinizer05my regular number is with sipgate.de06:48
DocScrutinizer05since times of twinklephone-0.406:51
DocScrutinizer05if you only want VoIP (without access/gateway to PSTN aka "telephone"), you also could check what https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ekiga does meanwhile. Back when I wasn't happy with them, poor service not really compatible with the refernce SIP softphone implementation (twinkle ;.D )06:56
DocScrutinizer05IOW their registrar only worked with their UA software06:58
DocScrutinizer05and the maemo SIP client worked even with N810 / maemo407:09
DocScrutinizer05s/with/since/07:09
infobotDocScrutinizer05 meant: and the maemo SIP client worked even since N810 / maemo407:09
Vajbwhich is more likely to cause segfaults, cpu or memory issues?07:49
DocScrutinizer05memory07:50
Vajbthat's what i thought...07:50
DocScrutinizer05though the question sounds pretty much failing the point07:50
Vajbit was not n900 related07:51
DocScrutinizer05segfaults on PC are 95% PSU and/or mainboard buffer caps, and only 5% CPU&RAM07:51
Vajbi upgraded both in my desktop and segfaults started07:51
DocScrutinizer05my point stands. Faster CPU/RAM is more sensitive to crappy noisy power supply07:52
Vajbyes that does stand07:53
DocScrutinizer05and you wouldn't believe how often I found a sloppy RAM or CPU insertion into their sockets caused trouble07:53
DocScrutinizer05you'd think that thing never could run with half of the RAM pins not inserted to the socker, but it does, just degfaults like mad07:54
DocScrutinizer05socket & segfaults*07:55
DocScrutinizer05my "recent" issues with constant IO errors on my HDD RAID1 turned out to be caused by the 60ct worth Y-cable in power supply07:56
DocScrutinizer05run a memtest!07:57
DocScrutinizer05every decent linux installer DVD has one07:58
Vajbi have case open so i was thinking just to pull each mem off and try if segfaults stops08:04
