keriobencoh: yeah but00:02
keriolinux-image-marvell00:02
kerio(and then flash-kernel to automatically turn kernel and initrd into uImage and uInitrd)00:02
DocScrutinizer05err you are aware we don't have initrd?00:04
DocScrutinizer05well, you prolly can mae uBoot bring up initrd00:05
DocScrutinizer05make00:05
bencohDocScrutinizer05: he's talking about debian00:06
bencohnot maemo00:06
DocScrutinizer05yes, of course00:08
DocScrutinizer05I'm however talking about *booting* debian00:08
kerioDocScrutinizer05: yeah but i'm talking about the fact that i can just blindly apt-get upgrade and get myself the latest debian kernel with an appropriate initrd, both turned into uboot images00:09
keriobut there's no linux-image-rx51 package in debian ._.00:10
DocScrutinizer05so? how do you tell NOLO to load the initrd?00:10
DocScrutinizer05actually tell NOLO to tell kernel to load the initrd00:11
keriosurely i'd just tell NOLO to load uboot00:11
keriono no, the kernel doesn't load initrd00:11
DocScrutinizer05see?00:11
DocScrutinizer05you need uBoot00:11
kerioof course00:11
DocScrutinizer05actually it MIGHT be possible to tell even NOLO about cmdline00:12
kerioi wasn't even considering the possibility of not having uboot tbh00:13
bencohme neither :)00:13
bencohit just feels silly relying on NOLO only00:13
DocScrutinizer05you asked why N900 isn't supported straight away in debian, right?00:13
kerioi didn't say "supported by debian-installer"00:14
keriod-i is responsible for the bootloader :>00:14
DocScrutinizer05well, whatever, I strongly suggest you enter a root console in your brain, cd into ~/N900/ and do a sed -i 's/debian/devuan/g' *00:15
DocScrutinizer05;-)00:16
DocScrutinizer05devuan masters will be more than happy to support a N900 branch (or whatever needed), they are *very* downstream-friendly00:17
kerioye idk00:17
kerioi mean00:17
kerioother than switching systemd-udevd for vdevd, it would look exactly the same in my home server00:17
DocScrutinizer05ooh, vdev is in production now?00:18
kerioidk00:18
DocScrutinizer05nice, I contributed a tiny bit to it00:18
keriohttps://github.com/jcnelson/vdev/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3Abug00:19
DocScrutinizer05hmm, https://github.com/jcnelson/vdev sounds still good. Need to get in touch witrh jcnelson what's state of development00:29
DocScrutinizer05(which actually means to ping him when he's around in #devuan)00:29
kerio>using linux in 201600:29
DocScrutinizer05hmm?00:31

Siceloi am trying to connect my N900 to a bluetooth serial device (car obd scanner). i can successfully bind the port (rfcomm0). when i type in minicom, the LED on the scanner comes on. however i never get a reply for any command i send. i am quite sure baud rate is fine (9600 8N1) as per the documentation. Have also tried 38400. when i press the enter key, no LED comes up. i tried connecting to the device using android, and it works. however android apps don't16:02
Siceloalso, i have tried same from my 2nd N900, with exactly the same unhappy outcome16:03

Siceloyes sixwheeledbeast. mine pairs fine. pyOBD connects and gets stuck after sending ATE0. so i thought to try it manually and see. unfortunately manually i have not had any success so far. works fine on my friend's android phone16:10
liu_I from china . so I can't on ovi.16:10
Siceloliu, make sure you have up-to-date repos. it is there16:11

sixwheeledbeastyou can see from the thread when I first used it16:21
sixwheeledbeastit's only a port, needs a lot of work to be n900 friendly imo16:21
Siceloif you don't mind, you could test for me if minicom/screen can connect to it :)16:22
sixwheeledbeastSicelo: I have to get back to work now, but if you want to send me some instructions of what you want to check and I'll try it later.16:28
Sicelotranks. will let you know.16:28
Sicelobasically, as root, 'rfcomm bind 0 <bt_addr> 1' followed by 'minicom -D /dev/rfcomm0 -b 9600'. then you can try writing intp minicom the commands from tmo, such as ATZ,ATE0, etc16:30

kerioye that's what i was thinking of21:40
DocScrutinizer05Pali: ((what me? :-)  )) How to disable MUSB core after e.g. hostmode?21:43
Paliwhat is musb core?21:43
Palior what do you mean by "disable",21:43
Pali?21:43
DocScrutinizer05the mentorgraphics shit state machine that controls the USB states21:43
DocScrutinizer05it has a bus to CPU and a bus to PJY21:44
*** Venusaur has joined #maemo21:44
DocScrutinizer05PHY even21:44
Palirmmod all gadgets21:44
keriocan't we do that with the real cpu21:44
DocScrutinizer05and all three (core and the 2 buses) eats 50mA21:44
Palithat could do all tricks :-)21:44
Paliand modprobe g_nokia back21:44
DocScrutinizer05aaah so it loads g_nokia or whatever whenever there's 5V on VBUS?21:45
kerioi think that he means to unload them all21:45
kerioso there's nothing doing the detection21:46
kerioor something21:46
DocScrutinizer05I thought there was a magic handle in /sys/bla/bla/*/power or sth21:46
DocScrutinizer05kerio: yes, that's what I got21:46

DocScrutinizer05Pali: do you recall the issue that device ate 50mA more after using hostmode, even when it been completely disabled? I think you found a cure for that21:48
*** vakkov has joined #maemo21:48
Palinow I do not remember21:48
Palimaybe it was some softconnect21:48
Palior vbus21:49
Palior another sysfs entry21:49
Palianyway, unloading and loading g_nokia fixing some problem with musb internal state21:49
Palisometimes after turning host mode off, musb is in wrong state21:49
Paliand kernel write error messages to dmesg21:50
Palireloading gadget fixes it21:50
DocScrutinizer05aah ok21:55
DocScrutinizer05thanks21:56
keriothis is just for vboost/host mode right21:58
kerionot for just simply disabling and reenabling the charget21:59
keriocharger21:59
DocScrutinizer05it's not the disabling/re-enabling of BME that does this, it's the 5V on VBUS I think22:04
DocScrutinizer055V on VBUS means either a charger or a PC host got connected, so to distinguish the two you need MUSB core22:04
DocScrutinizer05particularly you need MUSB core to do ENUM on a possibly connected host22:05
DocScrutinizer05actually the system *could* stop MUSB after detecting the D+/- short, but I dunno who detects it and if that system takes care about shutting down USB data22:06
DocScrutinizer05most likely not when BME got stopped22:06

SiceloPali: with usb-mode, how would i enumerate additional devices i connect? or i have to use the /proc/something method?22:11
Paliadditonal devices? nokia n900 has just one usb port, so you cannot connect more usb devices22:12
Siceloand, did you find any further solutions for the stuck blue LED after deactivation of host mode?22:12
Siceloif i connect a hub for example, then i need to enumerate the additional USB devices22:12
Paliblue led, no idea :-( I was not able to reproduce it on my n90022:12
*** luke-jr_ has joined #maemo22:12
Pali"if i connect a hub...", so you do not connect additinal device :-)22:13
Paliit is up to hub and hub driver22:13
Paliit do enumeration without any other other "hacks" in musb22:13
Paliso automatically22:13
Paliif not, then hub is buggy and you cannot do anything22:14
Sicelookay. thanks. will test. i was just wondering.22:14
Siceloin h-e-n there was an enumerate button, which i think sends an echo F to some location in /proc22:14
DocScrutinizer05with a hub you don't need that since the data link to the hub is already installed22:17
DocScrutinizer05I meant, you only need it when connecting the hub22:18
Siceloi see. thanks for information22:18
