timmywhere can i get the kernel for cssu manually? i need to flash it manually16:46
DocScrutinizer05he meant thumb-enabled kernel for cssu-thumb16:49
DocScrutinizer05where did you get it last time?16:50
timmyi had downloaded that through a full update to cssu-thumb, but at this moment i need to download that manually from the repositories16:51
DocScrutinizer05well, freemangordon and Pali should know16:52
timmyping Pali16:52

DocScrutinizer05epic: >> [20:54:59] <freemangordon> DocScrutinizer, lets not talk in the name of people we don't know, ok? <<17:28
DocScrutinizer05anyway, highly recommended read (even if you think you know already about it, it's not a bad idea to REread): http://maemo.merlin1991.at/cssu/meetings/2012-05-14.txt17:35
* DocScrutinizer05 wonders what's state of this essential project for determining and securing CSSU future development17:36
DocScrutinizer05anybody did *anything* to progress this? anybody found any problems in hindsight that we all missed out back when? Anybody meanwhile wraped his head around how this concept is basically obsoleting large parts of MP-concept by giving users freedom of choice rather than forcing them into a all-or-nothing situation?17:40

DocScrutinizer05btw for deploying $randomnumber optional packages to $user, I again suggest to exploit restore function. Have a look into /home/user/MyDocs/backups/*/* (or wherever you might find your backuptool dirs)18:13
DocScrutinizer05deploying an edited version of such dir and then starting backup-app to restore it will open a nice dialog for user to select which of the packages to restore, and then use HAM to install them one by one18:15
*** _rd has quit IRC18:15
DocScrutinizer05seems absolutely appropriate to e.g. offer users of CSSU-T to one-click-join the bleeding-edge-of-everything inner circle18:16
DocScrutinizer05I'm pondering to deploy a "Doc's finest (a user's digest)"18:17
kerioDocScrutinizer05: can you do that to non-user packages?18:17
DocScrutinizer05I dunno, but from a file structure perspective I wouldn't see why not18:18
DocScrutinizer05might need red-pill though18:18
DocScrutinizer05how ould any user be interested in installing non-user packages?18:19
DocScrutinizer05or rather, non-visible packages as of HAM POV18:20
*** _rd has joined #maemo-ssu18:20
kerioDocScrutinizer05: procps :)18:21
DocScrutinizer05since <see above>, about cssuR etc packages and the way they're supposed to be visible in HAM18:21
kerioalso zomg, libc6 update18:21
*** dhbiker has quit IRC18:21
keriodo i want to run it while on the road?18:21
DocScrutinizer05kerio: how would procps get installed on anything non CSSU? how on CSSU even?18:21
kerioidk18:21
keriowhat about the -gnu tools?18:22
kerioare they visible in HAM?18:22
DocScrutinizer05afaik those are user?18:22
DocScrutinizer05nfc18:22
DocScrutinizer05if they're not visible, they won't go optional18:22
keriocamera-ui isn't userful18:22
DocScrutinizer05it will be, as soon as it goes cssuR18:23
DocScrutinizer05that's the use of the suggested intermediate *-NOKIA package that depends on the original nokia package not in user18:24
DocScrutinizer05besides it also serves for conflicting with the cssu pkg18:24
DocScrutinizer05so camera-ui-cssu is visible/user and imports the nicocam binary camera-ui.  camera-ui-NOKIA is visible/user and depends on (invisible) Nokia genuine camera-ui pkg which imports nokia binary camera-ui. camera-ui-cssuR is visible/user and installs nicocam camera-ui2 in parallel to original camera-ui18:29
DocScrutinizer05cameraui-cssu and camera-ui-NOKIA conflict with each other18:29
DocScrutinizer05so when you install one, you automatically nuke the other one18:30
DocScrutinizer05any questions, Watson err kerio?18:31
DocScrutinizer05kerio: libc6 update never meant going to be optional - kernel though is18:32
DocScrutinizer05since the lib doesn't neet the pselect bugfix, it will happily work without it in the same way it did all the last 4 years18:33
DocScrutinizer05(fallback)18:33
DocScrutinizer05need*18:33
DocScrutinizer05and we damn shure should secure it's like that, since users might want to run bfs-kernel or whatever nonsense they could come up with, even their own kernel build, and CSSU so far worked with all those kernels, we don't want to change to the worse regarding this cssu property18:35
DocScrutinizer05sure*18:35
DocScrutinizer05kerio: also note that the scheme of mutually conflicting pks could also work for non-user pkgs via apt, as lonk as friggin MP is not dropping the ball in the game18:39
DocScrutinizer05messybox is a particularly evil example how to NOT do it18:40
DocScrutinizer05re procps18:40
*** dafox has quit IRC18:41
DocScrutinizer05basically you'd need a 'meta'package for each of the messybox applets like ps, ls, whatnot, each installing the symlink only, providing the property, and depending on messybox18:43
DocScrutinizer05so you could install procps and by conflict it should uninstall messybox-ps18:43
*** dhbiker has joined #maemo-ssu18:45
DocScrutinizer05though ps not exactly the best example either, since messybox ps applet is fubar anyway18:46

DocScrutinizer05[2012-11-04 21:15:32] <fil> would it not be a good idea to flush fapman off of people's systems by having one of these CSSU packages conflict with it?  (or has that already happened, and I missed it because I'm not getting updates?)22:22
DocScrutinizer05[2012-11-04 21:16:28] <DocScrutinizer05> hey, nice idea22:22

MrPinguIMO, big fat warning on wiki, cssu installation not use FAM seems good enough to me22:34
tadzikI didn't have any problems with FAM, neither on cssu nor on thumb22:34
tadzikit doesn't do system updates anyway22:35
MrPinguNo because the cssu-repo isn't added to your FAM?22:35
tadzikpossibly, yes22:36
tadzikso there is a solution, apparently22:36
MrPinguuntill you reimport HAM-repos, FAM *can* do systemupdates22:38
MrPinguAlso  uses autoremove and autoremove might fsck dependencies22:39
MrPingu*FAM uses22:39
*** arcean_ has quit IRC22:49
*** arcean_ has joined #maemo-ssu22:52
DocScrutinizer05yep, fapman *is* deprecated and known to fsckup your system eventually, and we already got a bugfixed HAM version in CSSU and we all hope to get a HAM version that can handle CSSU-optional packages sooner rather than later, and then fapman is absolute #1 on the noflight list23:06
tadzikhm, I didn't know that it's deprecated23:14
tadzikotoh, HAM is still a PITA to use23:15
tadziknot sure if it's better to just use 'apt-get update' for quick stuff23:15
MrPinguhows aptitude?23:18
tadziknever tried it on the device23:21
MrPinguMe neither :P23:21
