IRC log of #maemo for Saturday, 2019-11-23

siceloand funny enough, Android's built it calendar has no problem reading the time from N900's vcal files, even though they also don't include timezone info. but on this device (Galaxy S7), the native calendar can't do Tasks, hence OpenTasks, which was suggested by DAVx500:02
Maxdamantusalso, I imagine if anything were to not use a particular timezone, it would be an alarm.00:03
Maxdamantussince in general, you just want the alarm to go off at a consistent time in whatever timezone you happen to be in.00:04

dopplerI love it when Android's calendar just like completely fucking fails to notify you of an upcoming event, spontaneously00:31
dopplercan you tell I have missed a few appointments because of this? >:(00:32

sicelotested syncing tasks with iPhone 5C. so it seems Android/DAVx5/OpenTasks is a bit too pedantic about timezone ... the iPhone shows the tasks with the correct date. just no alarm (which i don't mind too much)12:50
buZzsixwheeledbeast: oh gee, wonder if Andrew is gonna sell freenode to some faceless tech company aswell12:52
sixwheeledbeastI suppose the concern is Kape Techs history12:52
sicelois DocScrutinizer05 still with PIA?12:53
KotCzarnyfreenode has a commercial value?12:53
buZzthe data does12:53
buZzthe network doesnt12:53
sixwheeledbeastIndeed I could see fake AI bots leaning the conversation on topics I believe that goes on in other platforms12:55
buZzGPT-2 trained on someone's irc text would be a -very- good basis for identity copying12:56
buZzor theft12:57
sicelosilly q - isn't that data already easily accessible?12:57
KotCzarnydepending on 'easily'12:59
KotCzarnyi think freenode has channels limit12:59
KotCzarnyso you just cant join all12:59
KotCzarnyand also has a policy against bots12:59
buZzyeah i hit that limit a bunch of times12:59
buZzif you can read along on the serverside, there would be lower chance of people noticing12:59
KotCzarnysure, nsa probably has it's own freenode connection12:59
KotCzarnybut commercial entrepeneurs dont13:00
buZzlike andrew lee?13:00
KotCzarnywho is that?13:00
sixwheeledbeastsicelo: The issue is it being done internally by a company not just by any random bot.13:00
sixwheeledbeastFreenodes owner?13:01
buZzKotCzarny: andrew lee is korean prince that owns Londontrustmedia who owns PIA and Freenode and some NYC brothel and some wrestling stuff13:02
buZzand a house in LA that looks like its been in >50% of porn movies13:02
KotCzarnyirc can generate a lot of data, so he probably has to partner with some company for data processing13:02
buZzhe owns a ton of companies13:03
sixwheeledbeastThe other thing is if an IRC network became out of favour then you can always move to another it's not proprietary13:05
buZzyeah OFTC is still voluntary run13:05
buZzand not owned by some single royalty company13:05
KotCzarnything is that freenode became de facto standard for development/projects support13:07
KotCzarnyand cooperation13:07
sixwheeledbeastPeople that use IRC now are more tech knowledgable so upsetting them may lead to mass migration and therefore nothing to monitor. It's probably a lose lose situation.13:07
buZzsixwheeledbeast: yeah i think andrew didnt think it through13:08
buZzhe also owns kiwiirc btc13:08
KotCzarnything is, its not that easy to migrate13:11
KotCzarnyand it all depends on cost calculation13:11
KotCzarnyif there is money to gain from selling data that will make up for the cost of the network, guess what will happen13:11
buZzso you're argueing the data is already being sold a lot13:12
KotCzarnyisnt it?13:12
buZzand the commercial owner of freenode cant proof anything to guarantee it doesnt happen13:12
buZzso when is #maemo moving to OFTC?13:13
