JaffaIf so, anyone any objections to the launch announcement going out?13:39
psycho_oreosthat reminds me, I need to edit the wiki, some typos on that mhd versus hildon-desktop13:40

ecksunthe instructions on the wiki about how to install the ssu doesnt wor18:44
ecksunk18:44
ecksunI just installed the repository, but it doesnt install any packages, i think18:44
ecksunI would think you would have to install "Community SSU enabler"?18:45
ecksunhmm, but i see the .install file should do that :/18:46
ecksundpkg -l  doesnt list anything named "community-ssu-enabler"18:48
psycho_oreosonce you run the install file, it should go through a series of questions inside HAM before its added. After that you'll need to exit HAM and run the Community SSU enabler, its in the menu somewhere18:49
ecksunbut it only asked if i wanted to add the repo, nothing more18:49
ecksunI got a new n900 yesterday (warranty <3), the only thing i have done is to install bash and coreutils and make bash the default package18:50
psycho_oreosand you don't see an extra icon under menu?18:50
ecksunnope18:50
ecksundpkg -l | grep community-ssu18:50
ecksunyields nothing18:50
SpeedEvilecksun: What died on the old one?18:50
ecksunthe usb-connection18:51
ecksunit fell off :P18:51
ecksunso this is my third n900 :)18:51
SpeedEvilah18:51
ecksunany idea on why it didint install the package when i downloaded the .install file?18:52
psycho_oreosnot sure18:54
ecksuncould it be related to me replacing ash with bash?18:54
psycho_oreosat that point I'd try and enable red pill and check the logs18:54
ecksunbecause thats the only thing i can think of18:54
ecksundoes the red pill still exists?18:55
ecksunwhich logs?18:55
psycho_oreosas long as you didn't replace that at the fs level18:55
ecksuni changed it in /etc/passwd18:55
psycho_oreosyes red pill exist through a file hack :)18:55
ecksunnice, but why would you want that?18:55
ecksuni got root :D18:55
psycho_oreosahh well if you changed only in /etc/passwd for root and user then it should be ok18:55
ecksunwell, only for user (and my new user)18:56
psycho_oreosenable hidden functionality and sometimes HAM seems to be more verbose imo18:56
ecksunwere are the logs?18:56
ecksunjust to make it clera, Im trying to help find bugs, not just to get it to work (as that would probably be fixed with apt-get install)18:57
ecksunhmm, when i ran the file again it started the installation18:59
ecksunperhaps I was to quick?18:59
psycho_oreosweird, no I don't know what happened nor am I a dev. I'm having some minor issues with the modified HAM19:00
ecksunit would seem so, I think i closed ham before it got a chance to install anything19:00
ecksuni see19:00
psycho_oreosahh yeah that might also be the case.. I do recall once running that install file and going through the dialogues I did remember with my load-applet it showed 100% CPU usage for sometime19:01
ecksunthat should probably be mentioned19:01
ecksun"be patient"19:01
psycho_oreosthe problem is to wait for how long :)19:02
ecksun:D19:03
ecksunindeed19:03
psycho_oreosto me as someone who has installed various stuff on my n900 setup (this is my very first n900, I haven't had the device replaced) I can see that one needs to give it sometime19:03
ecksun:D19:04
ecksunbut there is usually a progressbar/dialog19:04
ecksunindicating its installign stuff19:05
psycho_oreoshmm for now I guess I'll add that into the wiki and hopefully someone may give it a more definitive answer19:05
ecksuni already have :)19:05
ecksunoh, intreresting, sudser stoped the community ssu from contnuing19:05
ecksunperfect :)19:05
psycho_oreosyou have to excuse the fact that its not ready for the wider community as yet :) but I'm sure the devs are working hard to make installation a breeze19:05
ecksunyes, ofc19:06
ecksunthats why i want to help out :)19:06
ecksunjust read the mail on the mailinglist19:06
ecksuni would also love to develope something, however Im to busy with school :(19:06
*** thp has joined #maemo-ssu19:07
psycho_oreosheh oh well :)19:08
* psycho_oreos thinks about modding that wiki page to be a little better19:08
psycho_oreosand the mailing-list? you meant the forum thread? :D19:08
*** burchr is now known as w00t_19:08
ecksunpsycho_oreos, no, the mailing list19:08
ecksunandre fleg sent one out to maemo-developers and maemo-community 1h ago19:09
psycho_oreosecksun, ah bleh I don't follow the mailing-list too much, hence that's probably why I'm missing out19:10
ecksun:)19:10
ecksuni like it, not to much traffic19:11
ecksunas it is in tmo19:11
ecksun:P19:11
ecksunwhat problem did you have with HAM?19:11
psycho_oreosdon't tell me that mailing list is just like tmo lol. The way some users post their stuff on tmo makes you wonder about their stance19:12
ecksunwhat are you reffering to?19:12
psycho_oreosit randomly crashes, this could be the result of me customising setup whilst having red pill enabled and/or its probably the HAM from the CSSU repo19:12
ecksunIm not reading tmo that much :D19:12
ecksuni see19:13
ecksunrandomly crashing is hard for me to investigate/replicate19:13
psycho_oreosyou don't want to know trust me, some people on the tmo really makes you wonder their usefulness19:13
ecksunokay :D19:14
psycho_oreosI suppose it could be replicated if you have enabled red pill mode and changing stuff such as show all packages and show system magic packages19:14
ecksunyes, but i was more refering to "randomly crashing"19:14
psycho_oreosI'm thinking about disabling red pill mode altogether and see if it crashes19:14
ecksunrandomly is pita :D19:14
ecksunwhy do you want that?19:15
psycho_oreosyeah the randomly crashing is related to HAM :)19:15
psycho_oreoswell if it still crashes after red pill mode has been disabled then one can say its not red pill's fault and one to tinker with something `they weren't supposed to' :)19:15
psycho_oreosits what the pc technicians defines it `process elimination'19:16
ecksuni was reffering to why you at all have red pill mode enabled?19:16
ecksunwhats the advantage?19:16
psycho_oreoswell troubleshooters I'd say19:16
psycho_oreoslike I said hidden functionality19:16
ecksunlike what?19:17
ecksuni seldom use HAM, usually i just open up a terminal, so Im curious19:17
ecksun:)19:17
psycho_oreosyou can make it show system packages and instead of the normal packages categorised, you can see (with magic packages) their exact repo location such as user/system19:17
ecksunokay, apt-cache show :)19:18
psycho_oreosthere's a wiki page dedicated to defining what red pill mode does19:18
ecksunbut yeah, i can see why it would be usefull19:18
psycho_oreoshttp://wiki.maemo.org/Red_Pill_mode19:18
ecksunyes :)19:19
ecksunwhat happens if you change red-pill-mode and not red-pill-permanent?19:20
psycho_oreosyou can't, its either on or off19:20
thpjust installed the community ssu - the vte fix works as expected :)19:20
*** Venemo has joined #maemo-ssu19:31
psycho_oreosyup looks like the issue with random HAM crashes were definitely to do with red pill mode19:34
ecksunnice then, that you have figured out that19:40
psycho_oreoshumm not quite, I installed advanced clock plugin, backgrounded the HAM task whilst trying to configure the advanced clock plugin HAM crashed lol19:42
psycho_oreosI'm sure my crash logs are filling up, I'll check that soon19:42

thebootroo_hi all !20:45
thebootroo_i'm a happy N900 owner20:46
thebootroo_and i just saw the news about CSSU20:46
thebootroo_after adding the repos i will have a community Maemo 5 update (kind of 1.3.1 ?)20:46
thebootroo_will it fix bugs about the FM transmitter not working since PR1.3 ?20:47
psycho_oreosits best to go through the install file as it will do all the necessary stuff to make it work20:47
psycho_oreoswhat do you mean about FM transmitter not working? it works fine here (using PR1.3 of course)20:47
thebootroo_since my upgrade to pr1.3 i cant enable fm transmitter and radio is no workin too20:49
psycho_oreosthat's unusual, they both work in my case, could it be the case that you're using a custom kernel?20:50
*** pillar has joined #maemo-ssu20:58

*** M4rtinK has joined #maemo-ssu21:02

thebootroo_psycho_oreos: i used the base kernel cause my device was motherboard changed by nokia so i had the stock PR1.2 that i upgraded to PR1.3 but the FM never worked so i tried the titan kernel but no changes21:18
psycho_oreosthebootroo_, huh? that made no sense, you mean you have a different motherboard revision for the exact same device?21:20
psycho_oreosi.e. the device was sent for service due to some malfunctioning hence now it has a different motherboard?21:20
*** DocScrutinizer has quit IRC21:22
thebootroo_i not sure i have a different motherboard but the usb port is not soldered the sam way. but i think the FM transmitter problem is software21:30
psycho_oreoswell its hard to say, Venemo said tht the fm transmitter is closed source, the application is but the driver isn't. So unless you can get the driver to be more verbose then its issues with the actual chipset. Furthermore you did say that the fm transmitter never worked which meant that regardless of the official update it will never work hence hardware malfunction21:32
psycho_oreosand I've just checked the available params for fmtx-si4713, looks like there's no verbose or debug capabilities with that driver21:45
