bencohstryngs: http://git-scm.com/docs/git-config look for http/ssl01:25
stryngsbencoh: Let me try to rephrase.  On the n900, I can avoid ssl via: GIT_SSL_NO_VERIFY=true01:28
stryngsOn my laptop, this is not needed01:28
stryngsMy laptop git knows where certs are on my laptop01:28
stryngsWhere and how do i install those certs to maemo?01:28
*** myk42 has joined #maemo01:39
myk42Hi, i am considering buying a n900 and just wondered the state of maemo O/S appwise? I know the n900 is unsuported, but i love the design, and would love to run debian, or even nitdroid if that is still available. Looking at the forums on maemo.org, there still seems alot  of people involved.01:43
stryngsit's popular myk4201:43
stryngsJust gotta figure out what you want to do with it01:43
stryngsMe?  I hack, so i run my own custom maemo os01:43
stryngsothers do CSSU01:43
stryngsetc..01:43
myk42basically is the browser, or choice of browsers still up to speed with the web? I mean i would be running facebook and stuff like, plus booking stuff online and shopping etc... plus gmail and youtube. The usual suspects maybe?01:46
stryngshaha01:46
stryngsNo01:46
myk42:)01:46
myk42:(01:46
myk42really?01:46
stryngsNot in my opinion01:47
stryngsbut i dont do many gui things with my n90001:47
stryngsi use it for wifi pentesting and such01:47
stryngsmostly command line01:47
myk42i see! Yes this is apealling - having a proper linux-based o/s in your pocket, but i initially, need  a smartphone for the usual suspects -to compete with an entry level android phone, which i am considering ( i can get an n900 - my dream phone (still) fro the same price as a new entry level android)01:50
stryngsu can get an n900 for around 40 eur01:51
myk42I have one of the last symbian phones made, which is a great phone, but is starting to give me trouble. AN n900 would be a VAST improvement i expect.01:53
ZetaRmyk42: There is also new development of Maemo in preparation for the release of the Neo900.02:06
ZetaRI got my N900 for Christmas last year, and I think its great. It hasn't really felt outdated because underneath the hood it is a standard Linux system and so you can port new packages quite easily.02:09
myk42I'm glad to hear of this. The neo will upgrade the n900 i read, so maemo will run on these upgraded n900s?02:09
ZetaRThe Neo900 is a new phone, which reuses the case of the N900.02:09
ZetaRhttp://neo900.org/02:10
ZetaRThe Neo900 project just deals with hardware, but there is a separate group working on Maemo for the Neo900.02:11
myk42yes i read of the neo900 and thought it a good idea. How far has the development of a maemo release for the neo900 got, andd will it be a standard maemo release or one specifically for the neo900?02:11
ZetaRSorry, I don't really know the answer to those questions. I have been hanging out mainly with the Neo900 hardware devs. I suspect that most of the work will also apply to the N900 though.02:12
myk42I am considering getting an n900 (instead of an entry level android phone) do the maemo apps for facebook, and the browser(s), and youtube and such work at well still?02:14
*** sparetire_ has quit IRC02:15
ZetaRI haven't really used Facebook/Youtube on my N900 so I am not sure, but there are a lot of tools for dealing with Youtube in the extras/testing/devel repositories. IDK about Facebook, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. There are also multiple browsers in the repositories that I have been looking at.02:17
ZetaRMaybe someone else here would know more about that.02:18
myk42are the browsers up to speed still with the current web?02:18
* Oksana goes to look up which browsers are available on Maemo 5....02:19
ZetaRAFAIK the default browser has not had recent updates because of proprietary modules. I have not yet tested the other browsers available.02:19
myk42also gps/openstreetmap is about the ony other thing i need atm02:19
ZetaRThere are a lot of applications for that. Not sure what is standard.02:20
bencohthere are quite a few (good) map applications, so I'm pretty sure you'll find one for you02:20
myk42that sounds good02:20
ZetaROksana: macuco2, leechcraft, links-hacked, lynx, heliummobilebrowser, fennec, dillo, and dooble. I may have missed a few.02:20
myk42that and a text editor plus a 'real' keyboard, about wraps it up :)02:21
bencohregarding web browsing, javascripted web42.0 is just way too bloated even for top-the-shelf desktop computers, so ...02:21
bencohwhat would you expect ? it's slow on n90002:21
bencohwhere, "top-the-shelf", what the fuck ? thx, brain :D02:22
myk42lol02:22
ZetaRHeh, I agree with that. I usually just ignore pages that don't load without JS nowadays.02:22
bencohanyway, you get the idea02:22
myk42yeah02:22
ZetaRI mean, on my main computer, not just on the N900.02:23
bencohsame here02:23
bencohI tell noscript to allow if I really care, but I often just "meh, close"02:23
ZetaRWhen you start using noscript and requestpolicy, it is really apparent how bloated and tangled most websites are.02:24
bencohunfortunately noscript doesn't work properly on microb02:25
myk42no major problems with a site like facebook or say bbc, compared to average desktop?02:25
bencoh(even if you do manage to make it run in microb, it's dead slow)02:25
myk42i didn't m4an that comparisson literally02:25
bencohI think there is a fb app (or there used to be), but I'm not sure02:26
myk42i forget the n900 is a phone lol ( and not a new one) kudos to the designers02:26
bencohI dont have any fb account, so ...02:26
myk42bencoh: you are truely enlightened!02:27
bencohprobably not the only one here :)02:28
OksanaQML Browser (webkit-based): http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=93508 | What is links-hacked? lynx does not support JS, right? Fennec-XUL-edition is a tad slow | FasterFox for MicroB: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=72992 | Update MicroB engine (going slowly): http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=94107 | Alopex (gecko-based): http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=8950602:28
myk42Ohh thanks! :P02:29
OksanaI'm personally using MicroB (a tad broken by my attempts at manual optification), Fennec-XUL (a tad slow), and links (does not support https yet)02:31
OksanaOoh, anybody compared links vs elinks vs links-hacked ?02:32
bencohhmm, I thought we didnt have elinks02:33
bencohwell, we dont. it's in diablo, not fremantle :)02:33
bencohI'll have to try and build/upload it some day02:34
OksanaOkay, I used to have GoldenDict installed... From Diablo repository if I remember correctly02:34
bencohmyk42: does m.facebook.com suit your needs ?02:34
OksanaThough, I may be confused about GoldenDict, since it's apparently available for Fremantle, too02:35
bencohmyk42: for youtube we have cutetube2 :)02:36
myk42m.facebook looks good on my eeepc :D02:36
bencohhahaha02:36
bencohI suspect it would look as good on n90002:37
myk42what about packages like dictd and dict client? I use these when writing with editor in xterm (all of which i can do on n900 with proper keyboard? )02:38
*** lxp has joined #maemo02:38
myk42cool might start using m.facebook on desktop tbh, :)02:39
myk42i prefer the dict server over any other dictionary, as i can look up many dictionary files on my local system on the command line.02:40
OksanaI think that dictd and such are available http://maemo.org/packages/ |  webkit-based tear: http://maemo.org/packages/view/tear/02:40
OksanaI use MStarDict, with many local files stored on phone, yes.02:41
OksanaHere you go: http://maemo.org/packages/view/dictd/02:41
ZetaRFor my list of dictionaries I have: mstardict, qstardict, estardict, and dyct.02:42
ZetaRI have been going through extras-devel letter by letter, but I haven't finished yet.02:43
myk42Cool !02:44
bencoh:-)02:46
bencohwe also have dooble but I've never tried it yet02:47
bencoh(because of the too many deps on -devel)02:47
bencoh(iirc)02:47
bencohhttp://maemo.org/packages/view/dooble/02:48
* Oksana prefers gecko, but that's just personal taste02:48
bencohI prefere microb on n900 as well02:50
myk42wow looking at the microb site, it seems good. I have greta problems with a certain site that uses AJAX technology.02:54
myk42... on my current phone with opera mini browser02:56
