Sysaxedhello. I bought new headhones(with a mic) and by default inserting it into my n900 results with a buzz sound. Someone on maemo forums suggested to hold the mic button while plugging in and it worked! No buzz sound, speaker works. But what about mic? Is there any way to get it to work? I've found some CTIA to OMTP and back converters, is that it?04:55
robbiethe1stI'm guessing it's got a TRRS connectir>04:59
*** at1as has joined #maemo05:00
Sysaxedrobink: so is there any way to convert it?05:02
robbiethe1stalso, mic button?05:02
Sysaxedyeah, that small button that is usually used for answering the call05:03
Sysaxedwhy did I call it mic button :D05:04
robbiethe1stwait... what button?05:07
robbiethe1stWhere is it?05:08
Sysaxedon the cord of the headphones05:10
robbiethe1stOh05:17
robbiethe1stum... I got one of those a while back. Never could get it to work05:17
DocScrutinizer05FIQ: probably the maemo-launcher05:20
Sysaxedrobbiethe1st: yep, it does not work with n90005:23
Sysaxedrobbiethe1st: I remember somebody was trying to make it work... not sure if he succeeded05:23
robbiethe1stIf you're handy with a soldering iron, you could probably bypass all the electronics05:23
Sysaxedrobbiethe1st: but I don't care about it, I want my mic to work05:23
DocScrutinizer05FIQ: where do you see 2 processes? are you sure that's not 2 threads?05:24
FIQunless I'm mistaken (I've never done any multithreaded developing), seperate threads don't get their own PID05:27
FIQbut I might just be wrong05:27
FIQrobbiethe1st:05:28
robbiethe1st?05:28
FIQtop right of backupmenu's UI has a "-" rather than a "|"05:29
*** mschlens has quit IRC05:29
FIQkinda nitpicking but still :p05:29
DocScrutinizer05sorry, I lookd for the wrong thing05:29
DocScrutinizer05you're right05:29
robbiethe1stHuh05:29
*** mschlens has joined #maemo05:29
robbiethe1stNever noticed it05:29
FIQI can't take my eyes from that "error" when I have it running D:05:30
DocScrutinizer05well, you're right it's 2 hildon-home processes for example. Threads indeed get their own PID05:30
robbiethe1stSo edit the shell-script file?05:30
FIQDocScrutinizer05: mkay.. so why does it do that?05:30
robbiethe1stIt's not like it's encrypted or compiled or anything05:30
FIQrobbiethe1st: where is it located?05:30
DocScrutinizer05as I guessed: maemo-launcher?05:30
FIQnvm I guess I can just check with dpkg05:30
robbiethe1stUm, /usr/share/backupmenu/BackupMenu.item05:30
FIQty05:31
robbiethe1styou want the non-launcher one05:31
DocScrutinizer05err invoker05:31
DocScrutinizer05IroN900:~# ll `which hildon-home`05:31
robbiethe1stshould be just a string, which is passed to text2screen/t2s05:31
DocScrutinizer05lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2012-07-18 23:07 /usr/bin/hildon-home -> /usr/bin/maemo-invoker05:31
FIQDocScrutinizer05: ah ok05:31
DocScrutinizer05maemo-invoker impersonates a lot of stuff, and calls hildon-home-real or whatever the name05:32
DocScrutinizer05so in the end you will have one process maemo-invoker and one processs hildon-home-real and both did a self-rename to hildon-home05:33
DocScrutinizer05that's my wild guessing05:33
FIQhm this is kinda weird05:34
FIQthis script seem to have got it right05:34
DocScrutinizer05lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2012-12-26 15:55 /usr/bin/hildon-desktop -> /usr/bin/maemo-invoker05:35
DocScrutinizer05lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2012-03-26 01:16 /usr/bin/hildon-status-menu -> /usr/bin/maemo-invoker05:35
*** ecc2g has quit IRC05:36
FIQoh I see the issue05:36
FIQone string is noticeable bigger than the other05:36
DocScrutinizer05-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 486276 2012-12-23 17:04 /usr/bin/hildon-desktop.launch05:37
FIQbut the typo makes sense05:37
FIQoh well, let's see if this fix works05:37
DocScrutinizer05I actually think it's maemo-launcher, while maemo-invoker only sends a dbus ,sg to launcher05:39
DocScrutinizer05msg05:39
DocScrutinizer05FIQ: btw that's why it's sometimes not exactly simple to strace something like hildon-status-menu05:44
FIQthere we go05:45
FIQjust had to remove an extra dash at the top05:45
FIQnice05:45
FIQty for the hint, robbiethe1st05:45

DocScrutinizer05sixwheeledbeast: you'll need a preinstall script in your .deb that checks if the system is correctly tweaked/configured and if not then the script shalll either spit out a help text explaining what user is supposed to do, or rather even open microB on a help wbepage that serves same purpose15:13
DocScrutinizer05(re flopswap)15:14
DocScrutinizer05make sure you quit install with a failure so dpkg/apt database doesn't count the package as installed when actually it's not15:15
DocScrutinizer05thw helptext/webpage ideally goes "Dear user! this package is doing $lengthy-description. For this you need to prepare your system manually: do a)... b)... c)...  **THEN TRY AGAIN TO INSTALL THIS PACKAGE!"15:17
DocScrutinizer05keep in mind you will want to also have a proper working way to UNinstall!15:18

t3st3rInteresting question: my N900 started to think it's USA and so applies USA regulatory rules to wi-fi. Except all things around it means inability to connect to some access points as in Russia channelsd 12/13 are allowed.23:13
freemangordonCAL broken?23:14
t3st3rwhere the heck N900 gets idea about US and how do I make it to reconsider it back to RU?23:14
t3st3r[01:14:25] <freemangordon> CAL broken? <- hmm, not sure. How to check?23:14
freemangordonsyslog23:14
t3st3rat least MACs/IMEI/.... looks sane.23:14
freemangordonlook for libcal errors23:15
freemangordonin syslog that is23:15
t3st3rone moment...23:15
freemangordonor something in dmesg, dunno, never heard of such aproblem before23:15
t3st3rwhat more interesing, trying iw reg set causes  some OOPS in kernel oO23:16
t3st3rI'm using stable community SSU, if this matters23:16
freemangordonshould not23:17
t3st3rdmesg seems to be clear, though some part has been lost due to small buffer...23:18
freemangordonboot part is in syslog23:19
t3st3rand where does N900 getting regulatory domain from? I guess it should change rules if I go to other country?23:20
freemangordonhmm, no idea TBH23:20
freemangordonor rather - I think it is from CAL23:21
freemangordonbut what happens if you go abroad...23:21
t3st3rwell, from logical standpoint if I go from RU to US, I should have option to comply with local regulations, shutting down use of channels 12/13. But when I go back I should be able to use 12/13 again.23:22
freemangordont3st3r: did that happens to all routers you connect to?23:22
freemangordon*do23:22
freemangordonshit, does :D23:23
* freemangordon needs some rest23:23
t3st3rfreemangordon> hmm, well, I had some dumb issue with router reflashed to openwrt which was not willing to use chan 12/13 as well.23:23
t3st3rthis has been upcoming to strange interpretation of "world" configuration being "US". I've fixed that and now device can use chan 12/13 again.23:24
freemangordont3st3r: hmm, I am afraid I can't be of much help, seems you know how the stuff works more than I do23:25
t3st3rIronically, this caused extra testing of high channels and I detected regulatory plague affected N900 at that point, as it utterly fails to see all channel 12/13 APs.23:25
freemangordont3st3r: hmm, thinking of that...23:25
t3st3rat boot it just sets up US regdomain. No idea why it sticks to it and where it getting such idea Oo23:26
freemangordon"Jan  8 13:14:59 Nokia-N900 kernel: [48243.015899] cfg80211: Regulatory domain: US"23:26

freemangordonit's always been like that23:27
t3st3rwhat iw list tells you? Can you use chan 12/13? (if your regulatory allows that of course)23:28

t3st3r[01:29:52] <Ashley`> [ 1309.645477] cfg80211: Regulatory domain changed to country: EU <- I lack that part :(23:30
Ashley`(it's from dmesg)23:30
t3st3rashley> I know. For me it tells it changed to US and no more records about that.23:30
freemangordont3st3r: I bet your CAL data is broken. or something else23:30
Ashley`cssu testing here23:30
freemangordont3st3r: I have that "changed to EU" too23:31
t3st3rfreemangordon> haven't found any records about CAL issues.23:31
Ashley`(not the newest one though...)23:31
freemangordont3st3r: and it is right after icd2 started23:31
t3st3rnot sure if RU variant of N900 is EU but overall wi-fi settings should be rather similar.23:32
freemangordont3st3r: could be either CAL or something in sysconf config(or whatever that lib was called)23:32
t3st3rinteresing... iw reg set to EU seems to work... checking...23:33
t3st3rit also re-enabled channels.23:33
freemangordont3st3r: maybe you should strace icd223:33
t3st3rBut why the heck I miss this part automatically?23:33
freemangordont3st3r: what is ther result of "osso-product-info -q OSSO_PRODUCT_WLAN_CHANNEL"23:35
freemangordonhere is fcc/us23:35

t3st3rhmm, it tells fcc/us oO23:36
t3st3rwhich is not a case obvuiusly...23:36
freemangordont3st3r: ok, but I don't know where icd2 gets it from23:36
freemangordoncould be CAL, gconf, sysconf, what else?23:37
t3st3rthe most strange thing is that I haven't changed any settings at all.23:37
freemangordont3st3r: fs corruption?23:37
t3st3rtheoretically it could happen, sure, but I don't see other issues.23:38
freemangordont3st3r: maybe a reflash will be the easier way to solve that. who knows23:38
freemangordoneasiest*23:38
* freemangordon deffinitely needs sleep23:38
freemangordont3st3r: maybe wait for DocScrutinizer05 and/or Pali to appear, they know a bit how icd2 works iirc23:39
t3st3rwell, now I can see my test channel13 AP... but setting it manually is no fun and error prone if I go to other country...23:39
freemangordont3st3r: so you are sure that regulatory domain should automatically change?23:41
freemangordongoing to as google23:41
freemangordonask even23:41
t3st3rfreemangordon> well, not sure but it would be logical, based on timezone or GPS.23:42
t3st3ror else there is risk to violate regulations my going to other country with mobile device with wrong settings.23:42
t3st3rand at least "out of the box" it can see channel 12/13 APs.23:43
t3st3rso I really wonder what has changed/borked oO23:43
freemangordonwell, if your hypthezis that RD should autochange, then it could be your router that told n900 wrong RD23:44
