solofightis reflashing the device only way to us emy device again ?17:23
NIN101could this be bootloop?17:29
NIN101~bootloop17:29
infobotbootloop is probably when your device has broken rootfilesystem, so during reboot it fails on some service startup or kernel module load and thus reboots. This *drains* battery! And you can't reflash to stop bootloop when battery is drained. Recharge your battery by other means before reflashing. E.g. using ~rescueOS. Or external charger or BL-5J compatible other device.17:29

NIN101~flashing17:39
infoboti heard maemo-flashing is http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware17:39
NIN101assuming the fs is broken etc., reconstructing it would be quite difficult I assume. I would simply reflash. I am not sure whether you lose your phonebook, sms database etc., but MyDocs remains untouched.17:41
solofightNIN101: is this the correct video to follow for flashing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1zvRjL-2cM17:43
solofight?17:43
NIN101I don't know, I would read this http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware from start to end.17:43
solofightgot two video links from that page and didnt know which one to follow17:44
solofightsimilarly thre are two options under n900 in that pag....one is FIASCo which flashes and loads the rootfs alone and another says it flashes all 32 GB17:45
solofightso i need to follow the FIASCO - is my understanding right ?17:45
solofightjust want to be sure before doing something wrong - sorry of the question is too noobish17:45
solofightNIN101: ^17:45
NIN101yes, I would give rootfs/FIASCO a try.17:46
solofightNIN101: in the link you gave the download link for flasher gives me 404 http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-dev-env-downloads.php17:51
solofightNIN101: you mean, i need to go for FIASCO because i need to retain the myDocs - right ?17:51
NIN101I said it would be very wise to read the wiki article from start to end, because I am not too familiar with this topic. There is also a link to a mirror mentioned in the article: http://skeiron.org/tablets-dev/ :-). FIASCO because we are assuming a problem with your rootfs, and so there is no point in flashing EMMC or something.17:54

DocScrutinizer05solofight: you uninstalled powerkernel19:26
kerioaka no modules19:26
DocScrutinizer05solofight: I'm really surprised that nobody gave proper advice to just reflash powerkernel19:27
kerioDocScrutinizer05: doesn't help19:27
keriopower kerner is still flashed19:28
keriowhat's he missing are the modules19:28
keriohe could try to flash omap19:28
kerioif the omap modules are still there19:28
DocScrutinizer05the less I understand why NIN101 didn't suggest ~rescueos19:28
DocScrutinizer05or flash the default kernel, yes19:28
DocScrutinizer05or jusr use rescueos to see what modules are actually there, maybe install some sane modules, and then flash the matching kernel19:29
keriousing rescueos isn't exactly easy though19:29
DocScrutinizer05hmm19:29
kerioi mean, if you don't have a firm-ish grasp on what's going on19:30
DocScrutinizer05first and foremost I wonder why camera failed after flashing powerkernel19:30
NIN101rescueOS is suggested by the ~bootloop fuctinfo already. I also didn't know that powerkernel got uninstalled.19:30
NIN101s/fuctinfo/factinfo19:30
DocScrutinizer05shouldn't the proper camera drivers get insatlled with powerkernel?19:31

DocScrutinizer05well, that's the question19:36
DocScrutinizer05*my* hostmode seems been stable since years19:36
keriomy hostmode works19:36
freemangordonwhat hostmode?19:36
DocScrutinizer05"my" as in "H-E-N"19:36
kerio"my" as in "Pali's"19:36
freemangordonyep, but what hostmode did he installed?19:37

DocScrutinizer05I can't agree on the "obsolete"19:38
kerioalso, was he talking about camera-ui or about fcam?19:38
DocScrutinizer05pali's hm is based on pali's bme19:38
keriowell, not really19:39
freemangordoni suspect it is fcam19:39
kerioif it's fcam you need to reinstall fcamera-drivers19:39
freemangordonalso: " so i uninstalled the usb host mode and restarted"19:39
kerioor whatever the package is called19:39
freemangordonthat shouldn't happen19:39
DocScrutinizer05unless pali's hostmode19:39
freemangordonis HAM doing autoremove?19:40
DocScrutinizer05which probably uninstalls the whole kernel ;-P19:40
freemangordonyep, but why?19:40
DocScrutinizer05nfc19:40
DocScrutinizer05ask pali19:40
freemangordonhmm, it could be that KP was puled as a dependency19:40
freemangordon*pulled19:40
DocScrutinizer05yes19:40
DocScrutinizer05exactly19:40
keriothat's why you don't put kernel dependencies in dpkg19:40
kerioespecially when dpkg can't exactly affect the kernel itself19:41
freemangordonkerio: there is kernel-feature... dependency only, afaik19:41
DocScrutinizer05that's why H-E-N afaik doesn't have such dependency and rather does check for a kernel property and even a runtime flag19:41
DocScrutinizer05kernel feature that is19:42
freemangordonhmm, I guess KP can check in pre-remove script and fail to uninstall if it is the currently flashed kernel19:42
DocScrutinizer05and I bet o´pali's hostmode is depending on pali's bme for boost19:43
freemangordoniirc that is not the case19:43
freemangordonI have it installed, but no BME replacement on my "production" device19:43
DocScrutinizer05so how does it work at all?19:43
freemangordonno idea :D19:44
DocScrutinizer05haha19:44
kerioDocScrutinizer05: not quite BME replacement19:44
keriojust the bq24k module iirc19:44
freemangordonI trust Pali. Most of the time :D19:44
DocScrutinizer05bq24k replacement IS bme19:44
kerionope19:44
freemangordonkerio: yes19:44
keriobme replacement is the HAL module and the temp thing19:44
DocScrutinizer05you can't run bme with a bq24150 module loaded19:45
freemangordonkerio: no, it is ^^^ AND kernel modules19:45
keriowell yeah, but they're preinstalled with kernel-power19:45
keriojust not loaded19:45
freemangordon:nod:19:45
DocScrutinizer05that's fubar19:45
DocScrutinizer05KP shouldn't bring modules into system that cause catastrophic system failure (by causing bme to segfault and cause reboot) when loaded19:47
DocScrutinizer05no matter if loaded by default or not19:48
freemangordonDocScrutinizer05: you can't modprobe bq modules19:48
freemangordonthey are disabled19:48
DocScrutinizer05then why the heck they are there?19:49
freemangordonyou can insmod them ;)19:49
DocScrutinizer05and how the heck is pali's hostmode using them nevertheless?19:49
keriostop bme && insmod19:49
freemangordontoldya NFC19:49
kerioif needed19:49
DocScrutinizer05KP shouldn't bring modules into system that cause catastrophic system failure (by causing bme to segfault and cause reboot) when loaded19:49

infobotkp is, like, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=8982321:14
DocScrutinizer05installing powerkernel is the relevant part to enable hostmode, and it's this kernel change that causes temporary problems with camera21:15
DocScrutinizer05problems with camera can get solved21:15
kerioalso, which camera stopped working?21:15
keriothe standard one, or fcam?21:15
DocScrutinizer05uninstalling powerkernel is strictly NOGO. You install stock kernel to get rid of powerkernel21:16
solofightstandard one21:16
DocScrutinizer05kerio: aiui KP cam module kills all cam apps21:17
DocScrutinizer05rather, the lack of this module21:17

infobot[ham] Hildon Application Manager.  Slow as molasses. Anticipate you got time for a beer or two until it finishes whatever it does21:24
solofightAM = application manager21:24
solofight?21:24
solofightgot it21:25
solofighti usually use the "faster application manager" for installing and uninstalling21:25
solofightits not recommended ?21:25
DocScrutinizer05yeah, another way to break your system when you dare to use fapman for KP install :-)21:26
DocScrutinizer05~fapman21:26
infobotfapman is probably Faster Application Manager, a frontend for apt which uses own repositories catalog, and shouldn't be used to do system upgrades (like CSSU). It also does "apt-get autoremove" after every operation, by default. in short, it's deprecated21:26
Sicelo:P21:26

DocScrutinizer05solofight: I don't like catorize, I use apmefo which is kinda same21:27
DocScrutinizer05but has pretty convenient custom groups, and you even can have same icon in several concurrent groups21:28
DocScrutinizer05anyway both catorize and apmefo break when you drag&move the icons in appstarter directly21:29

DocScrutinizer05kerio: HD nukes the custom dirs of apmefo21:30
keriooh21:30
DocScrutinizer05it doesn't know of submenus21:30
kerioso it's "broken" until you actually reapply the settings21:30
DocScrutinizer05yes, you can open apmefo settings and save21:31
DocScrutinizer05and everything back to normal21:31
DocScrutinizer05but that sucks21:31
DocScrutinizer05particularly since you have a hard time finding the icon of apmefo to start it ;-)21:31
DocScrutinizer05when the complete appstarter is messed up21:32
DocScrutinizer05in MHD/CSSU you can lock/disable icon dragging in appstarter21:33
