jaafarI've built the calendar-backend module from source, and would like to use it with the Calendar app (so I can debug some .ics import issues)18:54
jaafarThe normal way of doing this would be LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/path/to/my/lib /usr/bin/Calendar18:54
jaafarbut I see the N900 apps are launched through a separate program, the "maemo launcher"18:55
jaafarIs there a way to invoke a default app but modify its environment?18:55
jaafarOr maybe I should kill the system's launcher, then invoke my own with the environment changed (so its launched children get it)?19:00
SpeedEvilUnsure, sorry.19:09
SpeedEvilSounds interesting though.19:09
SpeedEvilWhat're you doing?19:09
ShadowJKiirc I once on N810 added my own environ variables somewhere in /etc/init.d/af-init.sh ... but it's probably changed since N810...19:13

jaafarSpeedEvil: thanks!  Just trying to transfer data from my Treo Centro.  I've got >5000 events dating back to 1997 and possibly before20:55
jaafarSpeedEvil: there appear to be a number of bugs and I'm not the only one who's suffering: https://bugs.maemo.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=specific&order=relevance+desc&bug_status=__open__&product=Calendar&content=20:55
jaafarRFC2445 is extensive and calendars vary in their level of support.  Palm OS calendar was one of the best.  Google Calendar is pretty good.  Fremantle calendar... not so much20:57
jaafarShadowJK: thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look at that script20:58

SpeedEviljaafar: yes - I'm an author of at least one of those bugs IIRC21:17
ShadowJKreporter I hope21:18
* SpeedEvil hits ShadowJK with a word.21:18
jaafarSpeedEvil: cool, did you submit a patch? How's the response?21:27
SpeedEvilYou can't submit patches to calendar.21:29
SpeedEvilIt's closed source.21:29
jaafarSpeedEvil: so it was a GUI issue, I guess?  I initially thought I couldn't do anything about my problems but they turned out to be in calendar-backend21:54
jaafaroh yeah, many of those bugs are GUI stuff... hm21:55
jaafarMy problems are things like "Calendar dies while importing", or "Calendar incorrectly flags .ics file as invalid" etc.21:55
jaafarI'm wondering what sort of reception I'll get if I actually figure out the issues and submit a patch21:56

SpeedEviljaafar: You can't set biweekly 'appointments'.22:19
SpeedEvil(specifically, I want to know when my bin is about to be collected)22:19
*** Rarok has quit IRC22:22
jaafarSpeedEvil: can that be expressed in ical and imported?22:26
jaafar(I guess the problem is the UI doesn't allow you to enter it?)22:26
SpeedEviljaafar: Probably.22:28
SpeedEvilAnd yes, I was solely addressing the lack of freatures on the calendar, not caring about the divisionbetween UI andbackend.22:29
SpeedEvilOther issues are stuff like the date selector is nice and scrolly. But it make it impossible to enter teh date of next tuesday.22:29
SpeedEvilWithout at least mental arithmetic, and quite often remembering the number of days in themonth, and not getting confused with your fenceposts.22:30
