IRC log of #maemo-bugs for Thursday, 2010-01-28

fralslooking forward to meeting this mystic ui team now ;)00:02
andre__heh. I also only know a few people.00:05
andre__maybe that's better for their health. :-P00:05
andre__wolf^, will you kill me if I close https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7411 as a duplicate of https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8017 ?00:17
povbotBug 7411: "Rubber band" effect not smooth00:17
povbotBug 8017: Kinetic scrolling of hildon scrollable things has a frame rate that is too slow for some customers' tastes00:17
andre__that's a heated topic already...00:17
timeless_mbpGeneralAntilles: it depends00:20
timeless_mbpin this case, the interlocutor was the caller00:20
timeless_mbpbecause it's the person to whom the person w/ the n900 was speaking00:20
timeless_mbpand the instructions indicated that the n900 was called (thus callee) by the caller (thus interlocutor)00:20
timeless_mbpfrals: you get extra beers for killing them all00:21
fralssounds great *cough*00:22
andre__but the video on youtube00:23
andre__s/but/put00:23
GeneralAntillestimeless_mbp, referring to andre__'s quote.00:23
timeless_mbpGeneralAntilles: yeah s/GeneralAntilles:/andre__:/00:24
*** VDVsx has quit IRC00:32
timeless_mbpandre__: fwiw00:35
timeless_mbpi believe preed is of mozilla fame00:35
timeless_mbp(and bugzilla for that matter)00:35
timeless_mbpso feel free to smack him harder :)00:35
timeless_mbpanyway00:36
timeless_mbpi think this is the classic "gtk tree views suck" bug00:36
timeless_mbpwhich can also be written as "any tree view will always suck"00:36
timeless_mbpfor gecko, we eventually managed to make tree views /almost/ not suck00:36
timeless_mbpbut they still suck00:37
timeless_mbpand they're crashy/security risks00:37
timeless_mbpi think in theory gtk could try to cheat by forcing the tree painter to paint into a buffer for a couple of screens00:38
timeless_mbpand while panning it could skip painting things it doesn't think the user actually cares about00:38
timeless_mbpit's /probably/ possible to get decent 'fps' by cutting those corners00:38
andre__yes, htktreeview sucks badly00:38
timeless_mbpbut to do so, gtk would also have to be responsible for dropping its cache whenever the window is _not_ topmost00:38
timeless_mbpotherwise, as eero wrote, memory expense for each buffer would kill the platform00:39

wolf^andre__, it's not really a duplicate, but fixing 8017 will hide 7411, so I guess I'm fine with it01:09

Milhousei wonder if there is any change of another round of testing with PR1.2 before it goes public?01:27
Milhouses/change/chance/01:27
MilhouseAs we did with PR1.1 in mid December...01:28
wolf^andre__, ok, I've read all the comments and saw it's resolved as invalid01:30
wolf^andre__, I'd advise you to unduplicate 741101:31
wolf^andre__, 8017 is generic yapping about low framerates01:31
wolf^andre__, 7411 shows that there's something wrong happening underneath01:31
wolf^andre__, ie. refer to comment 25 in 801701:31
timeless_mbpMilhouse: i don't think anyone knows when pr1.2 will happen01:32
timeless_mbpbut hopefully if management found the feedback from the 1.1 testing helpful they'd arrange for a similar round for 1.201:32
andre__wolf^, thanks, reopened. please comment on it again01:32
wolf^andre__, ok01:32
andre__Milhouse, the question is whether managers think that the community testing feedback was helpful01:33
andre__also like how many reports got we from testers, how many people actually reported bugs out of those that had access to testing01:34
andre__"if 12 out of 35 used it, did it make sense to have that effort again?"01:34
andre__err s/did/does01:34
Milhouseandre: what's your take on how it went?01:43
Milhouse(off the record, like) ;)01:43
MilhouseI think it could have been better... but were many bugs reopened that were closed ? I only know of one01:43
Milhouse(although timeless would disagree with even that one, I think)01:43
* timeless_mbp shrugs01:44
timeless_mbpi like it01:44
Milhouseone thing I would say is that i wasn't always sure whether to open a bug for a new problem as I didn't know at the time that 2.2009.51-1 was the final build01:44
timeless_mbpbecause it means i can more legally file bugs in bugs.maemo.org01:44
andre__Milhouse, why did it matter for you if it was final or not?01:44
andre__a few bugs were reopened that were closed01:45
timeless_mbpyeah, please don't worry about such a thing01:45
andre__but it was also about finding new ones01:45
Milhousefor some reason i thought it might get fixed before the final build was put together - obviously i regret that now01:45
Milhousejust saying it wasn't clear it was the final build, or maybe i missed it :)01:45
Milhouseandre: i'm sure i raised some new ones - just one or two minor ones i may have not opened01:46
Milhouseactually as I have timeless here... it's a browser issue01:46
wolf^andre__, ok, I hope 7411 is more clear now01:46
timeless_mbpi'm a zombie01:46
Milhousewhen you zoom in on a link to click it, in 42-11 the newly opened page would have the zoom factor reset to normal01:46
andre__wolf^, thanks01:46
andre__Milhouse, As this was without NDA, I think only people were chosen that have been around for a loong time. But those people obviously already have a high involvement in maemo and won't suddenly start the device way more to just report bugs all the time, hence the report rate remains as before, but just two weeks earlier01:46
Milhousein 51-1 the new page is *sometimes* (about 50/50) opened at the massively zoomed-in level. bug?01:47
timeless_mbphrm01:47
timeless_mbpdoesn't sound reasonable01:47
timeless_mbpfile it01:47
andre__another advantage was that a few 3rd party devs found breakage for their apps early and either escalate in bugs.maemo.org, or "fix" their apps (depends on whose fault it is)01:47
timeless_mbppreferably w/ pictures01:47
Milhousek, will do it tonight01:47
Milhousesure.01:47
andre__Yay, closed: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1635#c9102:00

povbotBug 8593: Zoom factor not reset for newly opened pages02:08
Milhouseandre: congrats on closing 1635, must feel good! :)02:14
andre__oh yeah, it does02:15
VDVsxwhat's the oldest one ? bug 2 ?02:19
Milhouseoldest open bug seems to be #19, https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1902:41
povbotBug 19: GtkTextView widgets need a border02:41
Milhouseoldest is number 202:41
jebba#19 is "Fixed in Diablo."   I just closed it02:45
Milhouse:)02:48
Milhousehow about https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27 ?02:48
povbotBug 27: ttf-bitstream-vera font does not include all glyphs02:48
Milhousefixed too - damn! :)02:48
timeless_mbpspeaking of bugs02:49
timeless_mbpMilhouse: can you open 'Notes'?02:49
timeless_mbpif you don't get a rich editor, tap the title area, options, rich text02:49
timeless_mbpyou should eventually see a toolbar w/ a font drop down on the left02:51
timeless_mbpplease tap that02:51
Milhouseyep, got rich text open02:51
Milhouseyep02:51
timeless_mbpdo you get a scrollbar?02:51
Milhousehorizontal sccrollbar - yes02:51
Milhouseit ewen works02:51
Milhousei've got a very long font name at the top of the list - MHeiGB18030C-Medium which is too wide for the list02:51
timeless_mbpbah02:51
timeless_mbpcan you find someone w/ *ZERO* extra fonts and a default theme?02:51
timeless_mbpget them to get a screen shot02:51
timeless_mbpand preferably have them file the bug02:52
* timeless_mbp is fried02:52
Milhousewhere did that "extra" font come from? I don't recall installing any extra fonts02:52
timeless_mbpsounds like you installed the chinese language thing02:52
Milhousehuh?02:52
Milhousedon't recall installing anything like that...02:53
Milhouselet's see... openssh... a few apps from Ovi (touch stuff and angry birds)... not much else02:53
